Grants provide the seed money to train people for new careers or to advance labor-enhancing programs. The Department of Labor and Industry’s (DLI) grants programs help to ensure that Minnesota’s work and living environments are equitable, healthy and safe.

Funding to local governments for entry-level training of new building inspectors.

Funding to increase worker knowledge and understanding of Minnesota’s earned sick and safe time (ESST) law through outreach, education and technical assistance.

Labor Education Advancement Program (LEAP) grant
Funding to community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations and Minnesota Tribal governments, to introduce, support and place people of color, indigenous people and women in registered apprenticeship programs.

Funding to existing electrical registered apprenticeship programs and/or other registered apprenticeship programs most impacted by the transition to a clean economy in an effort to upskill apprentices and incumbent workers in new technologies.

Registered Apprenticeships of Tomorrow’s Clean Economy Grant – Semiconductors
Funding to support employers or registered apprenticeship programs in the semiconductor industry to develop or expand registered apprenticeship programs.

Matching funding to employers for projects designed to increase safety and health and to reduce worker injury and illness.

Women’s Economic Security Act and Paid Leave Engagement and Education grant
Funding to promote engagement and education to build worker and employer understanding of Minnesota laws relating to pregnant workers' and new parents’ workplace rights to pregnancy accommodations, express milk in the workplace and pregnancy and parental leave, and paid leave when a serious health condition prevents Minnesotans from working, when they need time to care for a family member or a new child, for certain military-related events or for certain personal safety issues.

Youth Skills Training (YST) grant
Funding to support the development of partnerships between schools and employers that will provide industry-related classroom instruction and paid work experience to high school students aged 16 years and older in high-growth, high-demand, living wage occupations including advanced manufacturing, agriculture, automotive, health care and information technology. Local partnerships must include schools and employers working together to develop and implement YST programs.
